Don Knight
Don is a 58-year old “total hunter” who has been hunting avidly since the age of 14. Don's superb physical condition allows him to pursue a robust hunting routine autumn after autumn. Don has hunted all over North America and Canada and has taken every kind of big game imaginable. He also manages a large hunting parcel each year. He has taken nine – yes 9 -- whitetail bucks that made the South Carolina record book, and one of those deer held the state record. Don has harvested at least 6 black bears as well. He has won numerous tournaments with a bow and with muzzle loaders. Don says he “loves the outdoors and looks forward to many more years of enjoying God’s beautiful creation.” So take a look at Don’s tips, and learn from a real pro. James Smith
Because James is an active law enforcement officer, we can't show you his mug, so here is a picture of him demonstrating the use of a Thompson Contender hand gun. James has been a hunting enthusiast and gun aficionado for at least 15 years. He has served as a state wildlife officer, a firearms instructor at a state police academy, and has worked in the handgun industry as well. He has won far too many shooting competitions to name and he is acquainted with some of the most prestigious gun experts in the US. James is a graduate of Clemson University. He is an avid hunter, proficient in hunting whitetail and wild boar, and he enjoys taking small game as well. In addition to being a well-versed hunter, James knows calibers and loads as well as anyone. If you have a question for James about your weapon, its loads, or any hunting item, please email him at james.smith@hunterscampfire.com
Judson Conway
While Judson is shown here manipulating a fly rod, make no mistake about his hunting skills. As the owner of Elk Creek Outfitters (www.ecoflyfishing.com), Judson is a former elk hunting guide in Wyoming. Although these days he spends the bulk of his time on the rivers of North Carolina and Tennessee, Judson has logged more than his share of wilderness time. In addition to his stint as an elk guide, Judson gained notoriety a number of years back when he and his older brother rode horses from North Carolina to Oregon. Needless to say, he loves the great outdoors. Judson still guides a few hunts now and then and loves to hit the woods himself. In addition to the states already mentioned, he has guided in Alaska and Montana, and he did a South American stint in gorgeous Chile. (He obviously has a thing for beautiful places). Judson is a graduate of Appalachian State University in Boone, NC, where Elk Creek Outfitters is now located. If you have a question about elk hunting, fly fishing, horseback riding, or just about anything else that involves being outside, email him at judsonconway@hunterscampfire.com
Theron Hattaway
Theron has been hunting turkeys since the mid-1980's and has successfully harvested scores of gobblers. His success in taking big toms is due in no small part to his systematic approach of keeping "action reports" which he refers to every time he sets out on a new hunt. Theron is also a conscientious hunter who places a huge premium on safety. He has hunted gobblers on both WMA and private land in the past 20 years. Theron is also an avid and successful whitetail hunter, and close friend and hunting companion of Hunter's Campfire expert Don Knight. You can email Theron at theronhattaway@hunterscampfire.com
