Well FELLOWS we have all had it happen to us more than once .If you or a true deer hunter. ? What I'm talking about is finding our selfs busted in a sure fire honey hole of a hunting spot. And the main reason of them all. Is the deer smells you .And blows out.. Now for most of us .When we think of whitetail hunting .We see our selfs up in some tree putting the drop on some monster..RIGHT?? Well in a lot of places It seems like the wind just wants to blow ever which away all through out the day. Sometimes it's because of a front moving in.Thats how the weather is.Other times its just the lay of the land..Like hunting in a hollow.Thats a bad idea - most of the time- as the wind can do weird thing's in hollows..well One of the best ways to get around this problem is to come back to the ground and start hunting out of a good ground blind.I'am a bow hunter most of the time .And i have to get close to make it work for me.And the ground blinds really do the job great. If you have one or will be getting one for this season. Here is a few things that may make it a Little easier for you..Frist its good to set up your blind a week or so ahead of your hunt. But you can get by with setting it up and hunting that day or the next...Let me tell you how we handle our Hunt's when we travel to ill.We normally get up there the afternoon before our hunt starts..We will wait till a couple hours after dark. This is because we don't want to mess up a evening hunting area .As we plan on hunting the blind the very next day normally. So we set up our blinds ..And next day we moved right in and start hunting. We will have deer walking all around these blinds .But you do need to keep most of the windows closed?/ or the ones that you can. Because the deer will end up sooner or later down wind of your blind.and if you have to much of a open window .One that wind can blow thur ??well you could have just as well set up with out a blind.Because ether way.your busted. One more thing i know the higher blinds look to tall .But they really do give you more head room to pull back when using a bow.If you ever get to watching deer look at a blind. You will see that one of the things that stands out to them or you for that matter { is the top}}.The top of a blind is whats going to stop you and make you look twice at it.Then you will say..-ooo Thats a blind over their. So I've found that the best thing i can do to my blinds is place a couple large branch's over the top.Just doing that turns the blind into a great big bush pile.Up close or far off/ This past season i had 2 different fellows standing with in 30 yards of the biggest Eastman blind they make. And this blind was in a area of open pine trees at the edge of a food plot. Not one thing between them and it.This blinds like 5 feet wide and 6 feet tall .so when i said go get in the blind..I'll see you later .Both times they started looking around way back in the woods for it .But it was right there in the edge of the open field with them. They could not believe that the blind was really right their in frount of them. But dont forget ..be sure you use that cover up on top .It fools them ever time. Also get a seat with a back rest..Lord will you be thankful you did. If you set in a blind for any time at all.One more thing if you do use a bow.i used to shoot a mechanical broadhead .as they sure do fly great.but most of them will mess up if shot thur a mesh window in a blind.to fix this problem you can buy blinds that have open windows to shoot thur or go to a fixed broadhead. i looked at a lot of different ones.and for me .i like the mageus stinger 4 blade 100gr. i shoot 100 gr field tips and then put on the mageus broadhead and shoot to the same point on out to 60 yards. Now i do use the 4 inch guick spin vanes on my arrows to keep the arrow on line .But i'am sure theres many more just as good broadheads out there. One thing i noticed is if you use sights or pins on your bow?.You will find that long before its dark outside the blind.Back inside the blind you will not be able to see your pins good at all?/ Some fellows have placed a light up on top of the bow pin's to give them exter light..Now this works .But you need to check it out some evening in your blind .As half the time .Your new light will put out way to much light. So much as to make your pins un usable.Just something else to think about.,Wish you the best if you give it a go this year..
